O Angola Online is a non-profit social project with the objective of creating free public access points to the Internet in different parts of the country, already implemented in the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Bié, Cuanza Sul, Cunene, Huambo, Huíla, Luanda and Namibe. The project is an initiative of the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI) approved by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

There are already 111 internet distribution points installed in the country, “spread out” across the aforementioned provinces, facilitating direct contact with privileged news and information, updated or in real time, via a click. With this, the Executive intends to contribute, in a significant way, so that the population of these locations, especially the student community, find favorable conditions for research work, since information constitutes a “powerful weapon for the development of a nation” .

At least 13 Angolans, from nine of the country's 18 provinces, have free daily access to the internet, through the distribution points of this service - "Angola on-line", considered today by the United Nations as a basic need of citizens , bearing in mind that access to information is a fundamental right.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MTTICS) plans to expand services to the other provinces of the country, with the installation of more points, mainly in schools, universities and places of public access. This strategy has, as a background, to improve national citizens' access to the Internet, whose indicators point to very low numbers in Angola, with seven million users of fixed services and close to 15 million for mobile services, in a universe of about of 32 million inhabitants.

Low internet penetration rate in the country

In view of the data presented, the Executive strives to substantially increase the number of internet subscribers throughout the national territory, according to projections by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Like the rest of the world, in Angola, close to 23 out of every 100 inhabitants have access to or use this tool. The demand for internet services in the country has opened up an attractive market disputed by several providers, with Angola Cable, Angola Telecom, Infrasat, Unitel, Movicel, NetOne, ITA, TS2, Quantis, Business with Network, Tikona Digital Networks, TVCabo and ZAP.

What is the measuring stick of Internet resilience in Angola?

According to data from the Internet Society Pulse, the situation in our country is as follows:

When looking at these data, it is clearly noted that in the four aspects that are monitored by this organization, none of them Angola reaches 50%, this shows once again that much still needs to improve in our country, in terms of infrastructure, performance , security and market readiness.
