52% of Angolan entrepreneurs use digital technologies

More than 52% of Angolan entrepreneurs use digital technologies to sell their products and services and 51% agree that there are new opportunities created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The information was revealed in the most recent study Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Global Report Angola 2022/2023.

In its ninth edition of the study, GEM states that 4,1 percent of entrepreneurs do not need to use digital technologies at the moment, 66,2 percent consider that they do not need to use technological solutions for their businesses in response to the pandemic .

The survey indicated that 84 percent of entrepreneurial activity in Angola is carried out in the consumer-oriented sector, 63 percent of nascent business entrepreneurs give priority to social, environmental impact and profitability for the company's growth.

The study, which surveyed 2.148 people aged between 18 and 64, from the provinces of Benguela, Cabinda, Cuanza-Sul, Cunene, Huambo, Huíla, Luanda, Malanje and Moxico, indicates that, in 2022, 17,5 percent of entrepreneurs adopted digital technologies and solutions to respond to the pandemic and 12,1 percent improved technological tools to be successful in their business.

The survey, which aimed to analyze the aspirations and difficulties of entrepreneurs, as well as the structural conditions that facilitate or inhibit entrepreneurial activity, states that 54 percent of entrepreneurs consider it more difficult to start a business in Angola.

Fifty-one percent of nascent business entrepreneurs and 43,7 percent of established business owners agree that new opportunities exist because of the pandemic. The survey reveals that these results are higher than the average for the Africa and Middle East region.

It should be noted that GEM Angola 2022/2023 is an investigation that results from a partnership between the Portuguese Society of Innovation, the Center for Studies and Scientific Research of the Catholic University of Angola and Banco de Fomento Angola.
