Financial institutions in Angola register, on average, 4.409 cyber attacks and threats daily, revealed Hélder João, Director of Information Security (CISO) at Banco Yetu, during the 8th Telecom Forum, organized by Jornal Expansão.
In his presentation on "The Importance of Cybersecurity in the Digitalization of the Economy," the expert warned that the most common threats are phishing and social engineering, malware and ransomware, attacks on critical infrastructure, banking fraud, and, more recently, the use of generative artificial intelligence for malicious activities.
According to Hélder João, cybersecurity is now essential for the Angolan financial system, as it ensures the protection of sensitive data, the integrity of transactions, and customer trust, in a context where digitalization is accelerating the transformation of the banking sector.
