The crisis and the opportunities and challenges for Angolan technology companies

If you have been following events related to entrepreneurship in Angola, you can confirm that it is at least a challenging period for entrepreneurial initiatives. One of the main reasons is the increasing difficulty in accessing services and resources outside the country, due to the "crisis" (currency crisis, financial crisis, lack of foreign exchange ...) or any other term that they prefer to use to describe the current situation in Angola.

The truth is that it is increasingly difficult to carry out projects where ideas, manpower and materials were imported as it was 5 years ago. But in order not to be misunderstood, we have made it clear that this was not just an insufficiency of the internal market.

Of course, some factors such as cost / results of work or confidence in national companies can summarize this. For certain services, mainly related to development (of applications, websites ...), requesting services outside the country came to cost less than betting on the domestic market. As is often referred to by a well-known Angolan blogger, “Vamos Lá Ser Sinceros”, companies in Angola had (do they?) Have a great difficulty showing themselves credible in relation to the same type of work developed by competitors outside Angola

Can anyone find out the real reasons?

Angola

But now everything has changed ...

As opportunities are in sight, there is no way to hire foreign companies with such ease, leaving as a solution the hiring of national companies, that is, companies that accept payment in national currency.

What are the challenges?

The first must be to prove that national companies can be as, or more professional than foreign companies in terms of meeting deadlines, project requirements, error correction capacity… in short, what is required of any quality service provider .

On the other hand, prices must be moderate. Probably in the craving for “extreme / fast profit”, some Angolan companies charge prices above what is acceptable for a given service, removing the interest of companies that intended to hire their services.

Let's remember that for each 100 companies created, 70 die in the first year of operation in Angola, the Angolan market does not spare new companies.

Do you think the current crisis that our country is going through has helped Angolan companies or made everything even more difficult?

  1. I believe that the current situation has come to help and not hinder, because, in my point of view, it has brought us a broader view of the financial arena in general, giving us the understanding that there are more challenges than we knew Previously, I believe that the strong were strengthened and the weak will fall, because we don't need many entrepreneurs, but qualified ones, who know how to defend their ideals, and in moments of pressure like these, companies are born whose fruits will be excellent for you and for everyone intersected with her.
