According to a report by the National Communications Authority (ANACOM) of Portugal, the pay television service in Portugal increased in the last year of 2016 to 3,67 million subscribers, 145 thousand more than in the previous year.

This is a record that is due to offers supported on optical fiber, which reached 1,057 million subscribers. At the end of 2016, optical fiber already represented 28,8% of the total number of subscribers, which meant an increase of 5,5% compared to 2015. Even so, this continued to be the second most important form of access, being first, cable accesses, which accounted for 36,7%.

But there was a decrease of 9,5% with respect to xDSL technology, with around 678 thousand subscribers and remains in third place among the service's support networks with 18,5%. According to Marktest's Barómetro de Telecomunicações (Telecommunications Barometer), in 2016, 4,1% of individuals aged 10 or over had subscribed to streaming video services on demand (Netflix, Fox Play or NPlay).

The transmission of digital television via satellite, known by the abbreviation DTH (English term direct to home), has 16,1% among subscribers to pay television. A service that also suffered a decrease of 3% when compared to the previous year.

Em Angola Besides the Cable TV which has the cable television service in some regions of the country, the operator Zap Fiber is already implementing the same service in the capital of the country and we expect to have several customers join this type of service in a few years.

Meanwhile, digital television broadcasting via satellite still remains the most used service with the most customers in Angola.

Do you use the fiber optic TV service?
