A group of researchers from the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET) recently participated in the publication, in a Swiss scientific journal, of an early warning system for agricultural production, which consists of using the decision support system called “Anomaly hotSpots of Agricultural Production (ASAP)”.

According to the press release, the research was published in a highly prestigious Swiss scientific journal, where the system provides early warning information on agricultural production, based on Earth Observation data and agroclimatic data.

BUT: INAMET will benefit from technological modernization to anticipate occurrences

Initiative was developed through the cooperation of Researchers from several institutions, namely, the Joint Research Centre, of the European Commission based in Italy, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development, the Center for Climate Prediction and Applications of Kenya, the Information Systems Unit Surveys and Remote Sensing of the Tunisian Sahara and Sahel Observatory and the Department of Physical Sciences and Engineering at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.

For research, satellite datasets were used to estimate precipitation, indicators of biomass and water stress in crops and pastures, as well as seasonal forecasts of precipitation, national agricultural calendars adapted to the phenology of the ASAP system.
