The mobile telephony operator Africell launches today the afrimoney, which consists of an electronic wallet that stores funds in an account associated with the user's telephone number.

The launch comes four months after the company received its mobile money, as well as the testing phases that lasted six months and were designed to improve technical aspects of the application and insertion in the regulatory environment of the market.

BUT: AFRICELL fined $150 for violating the Personal Data Protection Act

This way, the Africell thus enters into yet another 'war' of service offerings with competitor Unitel, which leads the mobile payment system with the Unitel Money platform.

According to the latest BNA data, Angola has already has more than one million users of the “mobile money” service, figures that show an evolution of more than half a million subscriptions in just one year, signifying a strong preference of mobile phone holders to benefit from banking services via digital devices.
