Angolan students must adapt to the demands of the digital era and globalization, in the opinion of university professor Bornito de Sousa.

The former Vice-President of the Republic, who spoke in a lecture on “Digital transformation in Education: Trends and good practices”, defended the incorporation of more innovative practices in schools, given that the curriculum plans of educational institutions must provide technological knowledge to students, providing them with the necessary knowledge to be prepared for the current job market and better able to opt for entrepreneurship.

"Digital fluency is required, with the appropriate and active use of technologies that must be made available to students to adapt and seek solutions to various problems”, said the academic, warning that he still believes that Angola must, from now on, work to standardize learning.

In addition to incorporating innovative practices in schools, he added, it is also necessary to create reference schools, capable of responding to the quality and excellence of teaching.

The “Angola 2050” Strategy, which projects the country's development over the next 27 years, presented by the Angolan Executive, he said, contains the long-term vision of the Education and Vocational Training sectors.

BUT: Founder Institute Luanda. Angola should invest more in technological education

This strategy, he argued, is demanding and requires a change in current education models, because the concept of school goes beyond the sum of classrooms.

"It is important to pay particular attention to students’ social-emotional skills.”, he maintained.

Bornito de Sousa urged institutions to prioritize encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset in students, with the aim of guaranteeing the employability of recent graduates in various areas of knowledge.

Bornito de Sousa called on institutions to also teach national languages on platforms that facilitate learning as it is one of the most important elements of a people's identity and culture.
