Amazon targets Angola as new expansion destination

North American technology multinational Amazon announced on Tuesday in Luanda its imminent entry into the Angolan market, with a view to contributing to improving communications services in the country.

The intention was put forward by the person responsible for licensing and regularization of the Amazon, Helen Kyeyune, when speaking on the panel entitled “Bringing Space Down to Earth to Strengthen African Economies” at the 17th United States (USA)-Africa Business Summit.

He announced that he had met with officials from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) to discuss how the multinational can provide services in Angola. He assured that they will work in accordance with the regulations in force in the country.

Meanwhile, Helen Kyeyune spoke about Amazon's commitment to improving Internet access in rural areas and digital acceleration on the African continent, in addition to providing support to emerging companies, with 17 billion dollars/year.

The panel was also hosted by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário de Oliveira, and heads of companies in the sector.
