During the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, an event that brings together more than 3 thousand businessmen and government officials from all over the world, Isabel dos Santos, CEO of our well-known Unitel stated the following:

We are involved in a partnership with Google to launch an underwater fiber optic cable that will connect Africa to Brazil and Brazil to America

Immediately news in the international press began to appear about the project that Unitel is developing with Google, whose official start date of two weeks ago. When I read the news for the first time, I was a bit confused, would such a big project have gone unnoticed for so long? But I quickly realized that I was halfway around the SACS project (South Atlantic Cable System), which is be implemented by AngolaCables.

So why does the CEO of Unitel claim to have a partnership with Google !?

To understand this we need to analyze the structure of AngolaCables, which was formed by a group of companies well known here:

  1. Angola Telecom with 51% of the capital
  2. Unitel with 31%,
  3. MSTelcom with 9%
  4. Movicel with 6%
  5. Startel with 3%

It is clear that Unitel is the second largest shareholder of AngolaCables and the CEO representing its company, of course it would not advertise other companies in this group.

Google enters this story as the North American representative of the multinational consortium where Algar Telecom (Brazil), Anatel (from Uruguay), and Angola Cables.

BAGS

According to Angola Cables:

SACS (South Atlantic Cable System) project that will unite Angola with Brazil, is an underwater fiber optic cable with about 6.000 km that will allow direct connections between Africa and the South American continent.
This project represents an unprecedented innovation cycle in the region's telecommunications landscape, creating alternative access routes to Africa and Latin America. Angola Cables will invest around $ 160 million in this project.

See the full official communiqué from AngolaCables to inform that the project had started in practice.

Other articles to “prove” that the project is the responsibility of AngolaCables:

Well, the news already spread throughout the world press, announcing that the partnership is between Unitel and Google. AND now, Angolacables?
