An Angolan delegation was recently present at a workshop on the situational analysis of the National Telecommunications Plan of the Member States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which analyzed the need for ICT services in the SADC region to be reliable and available.

Angola which was represented by National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), also served to address the rapid deployment of temporary telecommunications services in priority areas after a disaster.

In this regard, various entities such as consultants from the ITU, GSMA, GSO, SABA, ETC, Huawei, SATA, presented matters related to emergency telecommunications.

In recent times, several SADC countries have been targets of disasters in Africa, where many lost their lives and millions of people were displaced to other areas of greater comfort and there was an unprecedented amount of damage, such as loss of crops, destruction of properties and infrastructure. -essential structures. When disasters occur, many times local telecommunications systems are disrupted and communications may be unavailable during the emergency. This calls for an urgent need to establish effective telecommunication links for disaster response and coordination, especially to critical public safety agencies such as fire, police, ambulance, coast guard, customs and border patrol, defense force, etc. allow communication between them.

So, ICT services must be reliable and available when needed, including the rapid deployment of temporary services in priority areas after a disaster. Telecommunications/ICTs play a critical role in disaster detection, mitigation (prevention), preparedness and response. Guarantees of free use of telecommunications/ICT equipment and services are essential in the event of disasters. Therefore, the implementation of the NETP model is necessary for the successful realization of such communications, guided the speakers during the workshop.
