Angola still has a lot to grow in the Information Technologies (ICTs) sector, in the opinion of the executive director of Real Distribution of Great Technologies (RDGT), Victor Ferreira.

speaking in the Angotic 2023, the manager stresses that “Angola is making a very, very big evolution in this area of Information Technologies, but it still has a lot to grow“, as it faces a structural and logistical challenge.

"The problem with Angola is that it is a very, very big country and sometimes what is in Luanda does not happen in Cunene, it does not happen in Cabinda, but there is a lot to grow and it is working well", said.

The IT specialist also recalled that in his sector “sometimes IT decision makers do not understand anything about IT", which makes the picture complicated, because "technology is very fast, and/or you have people who follow the speed of technology or else when they are deciding, they are deciding according to past technologies and it is one of the biggest problems that I see both here and in other countries".

BUT: Experts recognize the digital transformation in Angola

For the executive director of RDGT, the continuous investment in training professionals is crucial to being a good IT technician.

"The training gap, the certification of the technical follow-up that has to be done has some constant evolution. Because technology evolves so quickly, and if you're a doctor you'll be a doctor your whole life, if you're a good computer technician, that's not true. If you don't have time to evolve, if you don't have time to learn, it's not like that. We have to make this evolution, we have to make this training".

The care to be taken with equipment so that companies do not end up in a compromising situation raises several debates, but for the technician “the biggest security problems for companies are people, who do not change the password as it should be” and who “ do not follow the safety rules” defined by the company they work for.
