The National Center for Monitoring Communications, an institution designed to regulate and monitor the communications market in the country, was inaugurated this Tuesday in Luanda.

The design of the institution, which will employ 30 professionals with specific specialties in the area of management, monitoring and compliance control of communication services throughout the national territory, cost the State coffers ten million American dollars (4.2 billion Kwanzas) .

The National Communications Monitoring Centre, supervised by the Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM), aims to harmoniously manage radio frequencies at the level of maritime navigation, aeronautics, radio, television, as well as mobile telephony and mobile broadband to access the Internet, in order to avoid interference capable of harming and affecting the normal functioning of various commercial activities.

Installed in a 3-storey building, whose works began at the end of 2021, the infrastructure is part of the normalization, regulation and modernization program for the communications sector in Angola.

Regarding the inauguration of the institution, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Manuel Homem, said that one of the missions is to prevent interference from improper use of the communication spectrum by unauthorized entities.

According to Manuel Homem, the center is a milestone for the country, as it guarantees more security, both from the point of view of aeronautical services that use frequencies, as well as in terms of maritime services, telecommunications and all entities that use electronic communications services.

Manuel Homem explained that the equipment can scan the perimeter within a radius of 180 kilometers, identifying everything that happens from the point of view of telecommunications operations.

According to the minister, centers of the kind will soon be set up in the other provinces of the country, noting that those in Cabinda, Cunene, Huambo, Benguela and Huíla already have similar services. The presidents of the Boards of Directors of ANGOP, TPA, TV Zimbo and other guests participated in the event.
