Angola currently has a total of 24 million mobile phone users, according to the national director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Matias Borges.

According to the numbers released by the person responsible for MINTTICS, speaking during the VI Expansão Telecom Forum, this represents 70% percent of the Angolan population, almost seven million more than the latest figures revealed in early 2022, adding that it reaffirms the commitment to continue investing more in the construction of Telecommunications infrastructures.

BUT: Angola has invested in technology to bring benefits to the entire SADC region

The director informed that Angola wants to reach an 85% coverage rate of the 4G internet network by 2027, highlighting that “We need to renovate existing sections that are having problems and also build new sections".

Currently the 4G coverage rate is 34% and the aim is to reach 48% by the end of this year. The 3G network has a coverage rate of around 90% while the 5G network is expected to have a coverage rate of 2% by December 2023, according to figures from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
