Angola gained more than 6 million internet users in the last four years, of which 3,45 million are over 18 years of age, revealed the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), Mário Oliveira.

When speaking at the opening of the 1st Internet Governance Forum in Angola, carried out by the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), Mário Oliveira said that the numbers represent an access rate of 33 percent of the country's total population.

According to the statistical work carried out by the Electronic Communications Regulator, added the government official, there was a “significant increase in the number of users”, constituting a testimony to the effectiveness and success of the Executive's policies, as well as the country's commitment to creating an increasingly intelligent society.

From what our newsroom was informed, the strategic vision of MINTTICS for the country, it is to continue to develop telecommunications and communication infrastructures, to help promote good governance, state reform and modernization of public administration.

“The objective is to ensure that the entire population can benefit from the advantages of electronic telecommunications, even those who live in the most remote areas of the country”, highlighted the national director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Matias Borges.

Matias Borges said that MINTTICS is implementing actions to meet the needs of the population and not leave anyone out in the field of electronic communication services. To this end, he said, he intends to expand and make broadband more robust.

The official stressed that electronic communications, social communications, postal and meteorological services are necessary to ensure that the population has access to data and information at any time, as well as allowing the continuity of development activities in Angola.

He announced the strategy to increase broadband capacity in the country, which plans to continue developing the sector's infrastructure, building the national network with five million 767 kilometers of fiber and repairing one million 553 kilometers of cables. For Matias Borges, the fiber optic network will be interconnected with the mircowave infrastructure, for this purpose, over a length of 3211 kilometers, 113 sites will be built.
