Angola has already met 60 percent of the country's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the words of the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Augusto João.

According to the leader, who was speaking on the sidelines of the Seminar on Systemic Thinking to Accelerate the SDGs, in Luanda, within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), he informed that one of the SDG that is still lagging behind has to do with social transfers, despite the fact that there is already a good program that aims to accelerate the process, which is Kwenda.

Therefore, for Mário Augusto João, what is intended is that Angolan families receive monetary social transfers within the scope of Kwenda to be able to develop some economic activity to break out of the cycle of poverty.

"Hence the extension of the Kwenda term until 2025, to allow beneficiaries to create sources of income”, said the Minister, stressing that Kwenda is just a first stage of the social sector reforms, aimed at giving dignity to every Angolan citizen.

The Public Manager also added that in order to fully achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, it is necessary to reflect as much as possible on the steps that must be taken to accelerate the National Development Plan and incorporate the SDGs into that platform.

The event also served to announce two new National Development plans, namely on the Eradication of Poverty and Education Improvement.

"These plans will help us quickly to accelerate the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the country, where the eradication of poverty deserves a lot of attention”, revealed Mário Augusto João.
