An Angolan delegation participated in the 59th Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of COPUOS, between the 7th and 18th of last February, where they discussed issues related to scientific and technical aspects of space activities.

The event also served to discuss issues related to climate in space and the use of space technology for socioeconomic development, as it is a global platform for the development of these matters.

BUT: Russia is Angola's strategic partner in outer space

It should also be noted that the 59th Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee also addressed matters related to the United Nations Program on Space Applications, Space Technology for sustainable socioeconomic development, as well as matters relating to remote sensing of the Earth by satellite, including applications for countries developing and monitoring Earth's environment, space debris, space system-based disaster management support, recent developments in global satellite navigation systems, space weather, near-Earth objects, long-term sustainability of space activities, the use of nuclear energy sources in outer space and outer space and global health.

It should be noted that last December Angola was chosen as one of the five new countries to be part of the Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), according to a press release from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS ), and where the choice of our country for that order is a decision and approval of the General Assembly of the United Nations (AGNU).
