Angola seeks fourth telecommunication operator

The Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, José Carvalho da Rocha, said this Monday in Luanda that the government will launch an international public tender for a fourth telecommunications operator, which will include fixed, mobile and subscription television.

The executive added that the ministry has already received several expressions of interest from national and foreign investors, but that the process, until the final choice of the operator, “will not be completed in less than three months”. The State will privatize 45% of the share capital of the public company Angola Telecom, which is currently dedicated to the fixed network only.

According to José da Rocha, the partial privatization of Angola Telecom, in the process of restructuring, will guarantee the investment necessary for its entry, also, in mobile communications.

Minister José da Rocha said that now there are only two titles for operators, multiservice and global, which is designated as a unified title and allows to provide all types of communications, mobile and fixed.

It also revealed that the country currently has more than 11 million registered mobile network cardsIt is known that the third operator is expected to start testing from the first quarter of 2018.
