Browsers

At the end of 2012 the LessFios conducted a survey to know which was the most used navigator in Angola. At the time Internet Explorer was the absolute leader with 51,65% of computers using the browser. These numbers were supported by the large use of IE 9.0 and IE 8.0 which together gave 47,18% of the total use of Internet Explorer. Second came Google Chrome with 18,93% and third was Mozilla Firefox with 17,71%.

Today, practically two years later, we went back to doing the same tests and verifying which browser was and is most used in computers in Angola for the year 2014. Surprised:

TOP5

It seems that IE's hegemony in Angola has ended. Today Google Chrome leads our market with 39,09% usage, while IE has moved to the second place with 35,96%. If in 2012 IE 9.0 and IE 8.0 were used by 47,18% of users, today the sum of them is only 10,64%. Still in terms of individual versions, the most used browser in the country is IE 11.0 used in 16,85% of computers, second IE 10.0 with 8% and thirdly Chrome 37.0 with 5.83%. That means there are still many users using older versions of Chrome.

Other browsers have also lost ground to Chrome, such as Firefox down to 16,88% and Safari to 4,98%. Opera managed to conquer almost 1% of Angolan users passing now to 2,44%.

What about tablets and mobile?

If in 2012 Safari dominated with 85,73% of browsers used in tablets (read that 85,73% of iPads used to surf the internet), this year the number significantly reduced. Safari still comfortably dominates the podium top with 69,55% of devices, but lost some ground for Android that went up from 11,44% to 14,33%, Chrome with a 1,99% increase to 8,07%, and Opera that came out of 0,46% to 6,61%.

As to Mobile those who think the official Galaxy or iPhone browser is on top are mistaken. This position is dominated, and well dominated, by Opera with 58,88% of users, while its closest competitor is the Android browser with 12,57% followed by Chrome with 9,54%. Safari on iPhones only appears in fourth place with 8,88%. This fact is easily explained by the great popularity of Facebook Zero from the Opera Mini among young people in Angola.

TOP5 Mobile

If you are thinking about developing some page, application or something similar for sure this information can be quite useful. And now, do you agree with these data? What browsers do you use?
