According to projections, in 2030 the population of Angola should exceed the current 34 million inhabitants, with around 33% having access to the Internet. About 1% have their own fast Internet connection, which is at least faster than the old ISDN (over 256 kBit/s).

Data indicate that, by 2021, the country had 11,25 million internet users, 272.889 broadband inhabitants, 120 and 01 people with access to landlines and 15,33 million with mobile phones.

The official said that the Executive intends, by that date, that 50% of the country's homes are connected to the internet and that 65% of young people and 60 percent of adults have reached at least a minimum level of proficiency in sustainable digital skills.

Pascoal Fernandes, who was speaking at the opening of the XI Meeting of Ministers of Communications of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), added that Angola still wants 40% of the population to be using digital financial services.

To achieve this aim, the Secretary of State highlighted the entry into operation of international submarine cables “MONET"and "BAGS”, the completion of the construction of the satellite ANGOSAT 2, the entry into operation of the National Center for Monitoring the Electric Radio Spectrum, as well as the gradual expansion across the national territory of the network of media libraries in Angola, as well as the projects N'Gola Digital e Angola Online.

With regard to digital security, the Secretary of State highlighted the inclusion of matters to combat computer crimes in the new Penal Code and the taking of measures to guarantee security in the use of electronic communications networks and services, as well as in the protection of data of citizens and organizations against cyber attacks.

For her part, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, referred that the Angolan Executive considers digital communication as an important element in the process of social inclusion.

According to Esmeralda Mendonça, the Executive has prioritized the elaboration of affirmative policies and the massification of investments in projects linked to the fields of telecommunications, information and communication technologies.

According to the Secretary of State, policies were created in order to guarantee greater access to the most vulnerable groups to digital services, be they internet, mobile telephony, means of information or communication.

During the meeting, whose motto was “Communications Challenges in the Digital Age”, Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the Meeting of Ministers of Communications of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), replacing Equatorial Guinea.

The Meeting of CPLP Ministers of Communications, made up of ministers and state secretaries of the nine member states, is held every two years, essentially focused on concertation and cooperation actions in the sectors in which they are responsible.KAM/MAG
