[Angola] Unitel 4G Network Coverage Test

13660

Unitel4GA few days ago we brought the first Unitel 4G Network Impressions (10 times faster, according to advertising). We tested and did not see such speed.

With the contribution of some Less Thin readers, we decided to take a deeper test.

  • In what zone do we have the best coverage?
  • What is the maximum speed?
  • What is the minimum speed?

The Less Thin team (in collaboration with the J Killa and the Nuno marques, whom we thank at once) decided to answer that question. During the night of January 7, we circulated through some arteries of the city of Luanda (for being the only one in Angola with the 4G network of Unitel) and made some measurements supporting us in the site + application conceptualized Speed Test.

Here is the reproduction of the route made, from the Camama area, to Cazenga, passing through downtown Luanda, going up Samba, past Belas and back to Camama. More than that, just another day with a lot more patience.

Testing Devices

As test devices, we take the Unitel 4G router(Huawei B 593), the only available so far and for measurements, we prepare 3 options: A Macbook Pro (connected to the router with a UTP cable AKA Network Cable), a Galaxy Tab 2 (with the speedtest application installed) and an 5 iPhone (also with the application installed)

Let's get down to business, results!

As you can see, we have a maximum speed of 38,52 Mbit / s to Download and 19,75 Mbit / s to upload. If well to Uploads reports of higher speeds arrive in other tests, as soon as they send the “proofs”, we will publish.

On the other hand, this velocity was obtained in the zone Fine Shopping Belas Business Park… and we are not surprised. Many companies there, Unitel You should want to impress potential customers (no one can blame them for that). As for the minimum speed, we measured 1,61 Mbit / s in an area with an extremely low signal level.

As for the tests performed on wireless devices, the real disappointment, we reach “only” 17,15 Mbit / s, less than half the value obtained in the test with the computer connected to the router with the cable.

 Conclusion:

Those who live in downtown Luanda or in Talatona can invest in Unitel's 4G network, speeds have been acceptable. But we must bear in mind that it is the first few days, few users on the network, after that we already know how it will be, unless Unitel strives to prevent 3G network failures from translating to 4G.

  1. Hey MF bros! Thank you for this article and I really appreciate the effort you put into the tests!
With these results obtained, I believe I will wait a little until the network is available in Viana!

    Thanks

  2. On the 11th of the current month, I went after SIM compatible with Unitel's 4G services and I was unsuccessful. First I went to the Marginal branch and they told me that they were not in a position to satisfy my need, but they told me another Unitel branch located in Alvade (join Solar do Alvalade) and there I was told that Unitel suspended the sale of SIM compatible with 4G services temporarily because it is still in a testing phase. Possibly they will be available in the second half of January (according to the employee who attended me).
I just want to emphasize that there is a lot of disinformation on the part of Unitel. Customer Service says something and in the branches they give us other information. Unitel has a lot better.

    • Apparently there is one more victim of the misinformation of Unitel employees.

What I learned in recent years: one of the most up-to-date stores is at Belas Shopping, where we bought the SIM compatible with the 4G network and where we bought the router…

My advice: go over there. 😉

  3. I was wondering if the 4G network is already available in Benfica and where can I buy compatible sims
