Pay TV is a television broadcast service that offers subscribers a variety of channels, generally in more specialized and diverse formats than open television channels. Unlike conventional TV, pay TV requires a monthly subscription and provides a more personalized and diverse television experience.

According to the Expansão newspaper in its latest edition, in Angola the pay TV segment, which has been a victim of piracy, also grew in the last nine months of 2023. The number of subscribers reached 1,92 million, an increase of 11% compared to the same period in 2022.

Satellite TV subscriptions rose 13,2% to 18,0 million, but cable television grew just 7,5% to 125.691 over the period under review. Zap maintains its market share with 70,8%, Dstv with 26,2% and Tv Cabo with 2,9%. The sector, in addition to piracy, has a new enemy: streaming platforms.

The growth of pay TV in certain regions, such as Angola, may reflect a growing demand for more diverse and high-quality entertainment options, driving the industry to offer a wide range of content to meet consumers' varied needs and interests.
