It was on the day December 18th which Unitel, in partnership with Ericsson (the company of reference in the world of communications), carried out a demonstration that will be marked in the history of technology in Africa.

It was on this day that the Unitel successfully demonstrated the technology LTE Advanced (LTE-A) Carrier Aggregation. The demonstration was done on a commercial network in both 1800MHz and 900MHz. For those who have not had a chance to test LTE technology, you can always see this article in which we made an X-ray to the 4G network of Unitel. Well, what is widely known is that the 4G LTE network supports traffic that can reach 100 Mb / s, that is, 30 times more than the connection speed of most Angolans.

While the LTE Advanced can theoretically achieve the speed of 1Gb / s. Downloads could be done in the blink of an eye, literally.

What do the representatives of the two companies (Unitel and Ericsson) have to say?

Starting with Amílcar Safeca, Deputy General Manager of Unitel

Unitel is always innovating to improve the consumer experience. With this global leap toward faster data access speeds for mobile and video services, we are also increasing our network to ensure that we continue to deliver high quality services to our ever-demanding customers. With this demonstration we are on the right track to launch, in the near future, the most advanced mobile network in Angola, and perhaps in Africa. We are working with Ericsson to make this happen.

The Vice President of Ericsson Sub-Saharan Africa, Magnus Mchunguzi, said the following:

Through LTE Advanced technology, operators can increase their network capacity and enhance users' mobile broadband experience, allowing data rates of up to 1Gbps in the future. This demonstration puts Unitel on the very tight list of operators in the world who have tested LTE Advanced on an active network using a commercial terminal. We are very proud to have been Unitel's partners in this important achievement, further strengthening our long-standing relationship with the leading mobile operator in Angola

One thing is for sure, the prices of 4G equipment in Angola have already, with tests for Advanced LTE, companies will make 4G services more used, to make the investment profitable. For now companies have more reasons to use such services, but for an acceptable price, I guarantee that everyone will have the curiosity to know what it is to surf with a “Net” of 35 Mb / s.

  1. Others who also have to improve a lot. I would like to see the Unitel network with the best coverage in Luanda. What happened to the “Blackberry” project if you heard so much about it, did it die?
