According to Fibra.pt, Huawei will install the first one for Unitel, marking the beginning of commercialization of the 100G networks in the African continent.

By using state-of-the-art fiber-optic transport technology - including coherent transmission and ASON technology - this network will help Unitel meet the growing demand for broadband and high definition services such as HD video, high-speed, cloud computing and advanced business applications.

Unitel affirms itself as the leading mobile operator in Angola, with the largest and most advanced mobile broadband network, yet faces several challenges today. Among these, there is a growing demand for bandwidth with the introduction of new technologies such as HSPA +, LTE and FTTX as well as accidental damage to fiber optic cables, usually caused by the fast pace of construction in urban areas.

Huawei's 100G ASON network addresses these challenges by combining various technologies. First, coherent detection technology is a "future-proof" technology, reaching a capacity of up to eight Tbit / s per fiber over ultra long distances. Secondly, ASON's state-of-the-art technology increases the level of protection against multiple fiber cuts and therefore significantly improves network reliability. Finally, 100G OTN technology dramatically increases network efficiency and reliability by virtue of its support for multiple access, multiplexing and cross-link services.
