Angola will soon have an Environmental Technology Center, located in the country's capital, Luanda, with the aim of taking an important step towards achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The infrastructure, budgeted at 15 million dollars, is being built by the company Frontline Capital Services, an Angolan greentech that collects private investment funds, exclusively for the environment area, financing projects from private and public operators with metrics different from those used in banking. commercial.
According to the general director of Frontline Capital Services, João Paulo Rosa, in an interview with Jornal de Angola, the decision to build the Technological Center in Angola is due to the fact that the country has great potential to influence the entire sub-Saharan region of the continent. in the environmental field using technology and financing methods outside the standards of the banking system.
According to the person responsible, an environmental sustainability project cannot pay an interest rate of 28 percent and requires new financing models, which include carbon credits, green bonds and a set of private investments with social and environmental impact. that allows them to assert their commitment and execute their projects.
The official considers it ironic that the largest private operator for generating African carbon credits is based in Paris (France), “it should be based here in Angola, which is a country that, at the moment, has enormous potential for generating carbon credits, not only based on projects with extraction resources, but also based on blue carbon projects, which are currently being highly profitable worldwide".
In this sense, the manager said, Angola and Africa, in general, have the capacity to generate extraordinary revenues based on projects that already exist and also on others that, in practice, can be optimized to increase exactly this carbon credit record.
