Angola will have a new interoperability platform for the instant mobile transfer system, called “Kwik”, which is expected to start in January 2023.
The announcement was made by National Bank of Angola (BNA), at the XI Banca Forum on the Digital Transformation of Financial Services, where he stressed that the platform will be managed by Interbank Services Company (EMIS), where it comes with the aim of allowing customers of various payment service providers to make transactions with each other, that is, an interaction with users who do not have the same application.
According to Rui Miguêns, vice-governor of the BNA, with the “Kwik” it is intended that there be greater levels of integration in the payment systems that are being developed outside the banking system in the country.
Still in his speech, the manager highlighted the great valences of the Angola Payment System Innovation Laboratory (LISPA), an incubator for the development of fintechs and other startups not related to the financial system.

It was also revealed that since 2019, the main Angolan banking institution has already received more than 602 applications for the various programs, mostly created by university students.
Also highlighted in the presentation was the Sandbox, launched last September, which allows creators of fintech startups, insurtechs and other entities in the country to test their financial products and services on the market, in an environment supervised by the BNA, during a certain period.
Finally, the BNA deputy governor highlighted the introduction of “Open Banking”, officially started with the approval, in October of this year, by the Executive Committee of the Central Bank. From this “Open Banking” initiative, the BNA says it is taking steps, involving teams from EMIS and commercial banks.
