The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, announced this Friday, June 14, that the entry of a strategic partner for the recovery of Movicel is about to happen.
During an interview with TPA, on the sidelines of the ANGOTIC 2024 event, the minister highlighted that the telephone company, considered an important asset for the country, will undergo a rapid restructuring process.
Mário Oliveira stated that, despite the difficulties and disappointment of workers and subscribers, Movicel is very close to receiving support from a new partner, which will allow the company to regain its space in the Angolan market.
“We are in a very rapid process, of the entry of a partner who will help us lift Movicel out of the stagnation in which it finds itself. We have already overcome several barriers and we believe that we are in the final stretch”, declared the minister.
It is important to remember that Movicel faces several difficulties: workers are on strike due to months of unpaid wages, and dissatisfied customers complain about the quality of services provided by the telephone company, which was once considered the second largest in Angola.
“The restructuring of Movicel is part of a larger plan to modernize and expand telecommunications infrastructure in Angola. We want to ensure that all Angolans have access to quality services, thus promoting digital inclusion and economic development,” added Mário Oliveira.
