O National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN)  recently made its service available Tech-Ecology to the National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), so that the Angolan institution can receive alerts on the occurrence of oil spills and obtain data on the frequency and quantity of oil spilled in the national offshore.

The partnership between the two companies took place last week, a meeting that served to discuss all the procedures involved in the process, the time for making the said tool available, which will be one month, and where the technicians from the Environmental Safety Office, from ANPG's Archive and Data Office, will make use of the tool and, with the support of GGPEN, Tech-Ecology will be customized in order to adapt to ANPG's specific needs.

BUT: GGPEN offers free Space Applications course for Angolan startups

It should be noted that Tech-Ecologia is a national solution for monitoring and detecting oil spills, based on satellite images, where this method allows monitoring large areas of the ocean at a reduced cost. Using a satellite radar image of the ocean, spilled oil can be distinguished from seawater by characteristics such as the gray level of the pixels, texture, shape and brightness, making it easy to detect.

This GGPEN service also allows daily, weekly or on-demand monitoring of a given oil block, providing customers with spill monitoring reports and access to the online spill monitoring tool, providing data on the frequency and extent of the area affected by spills .

The service is ensured by state-of-the-art technological solutions combined with qualified national human capital.
