Transport applications must limit access to customer data, argues APD

Os mobility apps in the country must adopt procedures to limit access to their clients' confidential information, a thesis defended by Data Protection Agency (APD).

According to the executive administrator of APD, Amaro Santos Figueiredo, he stated that this measure will prevent the misuse of passenger information by drivers, something that has happened a lot in the country's capital, Luanda.

Amaro Santos reported that the APD registers, daily, several complaints from drivers of some taxi companies regarding applications that fraudulently use customers' personal data.

According to the source, customer data is used to make disturbing calls, especially to women, after the trip has ended.

"If personal data and mapping of the trajectory of citizens using taxi apps end up in the hands of criminals, it could result in very serious consequences”, said the person responsible in an interview with ANGOP.

Without specifying the number of complaints received so far, the administrator of the Data Protection Agency highlighted that some drivers make calls with amorous and indecent approaches to customers, as well as inappropriate negotiation proposals.

To mitigate this contradictory practice, APD, since the beginning of this month, has been holding technical meetings with companies operating in this economic segment, to understand how personal data collected from passengers is processed.

To access personalized taxis, customers must provide information such as their name, telephone number, address and journey trajectory.

Amaro Figueiredo explained that this pedagogical measure aims to refine security and protection measures, sharing data with drivers, as well as fine-tuning protection and safeguarding mechanisms for customer information, to prevent misdemeanors.
