Mobile phone app service 'Yango' expanded the use of taxis in Maputo and Matola in two years, allowing access to a service that was only for the elite, the company said today.
"I dare say that we have transformed urban mobility in Mozambique, now anyone can move from point A to point B, quickly“, the director of Yango in Mozambique, Momed Adamo, told Lusa, on the sidelines of Moztech — Mozambique technology fair, which ends today in Maputo.
Adamo stated that the fact that the digital platform allows the availability of taxis in a short time and with a short distance traveled has drastically reduced transport costs, attracting layers of the population with less wealth and residing in the suburbs and outskirts of the cities of Maputo and Matola, southern Mozambique.
"The great innovation that we bring to the market is that anyone, at this moment, in any part of the city, can request a trip and obtain a vehicle in less than five minutes, this did not exist in the city of Maputo, before November 2022“, when the application was introduced, highlights the director of Yango.
The technology already has thousands of drivers on the platform, who also make thousands of trips per day, he continued.
Momed Adamo also highlights the security of the taxi service recently incorporated into the mobile phone application, for both the passenger and the driver, because the platform has a security center, which allows users to contact local authorities and people nearby, as well as share the route.
BUT: Yango and CISP come together to protect drivers and passengers
"We carry out a rigorous validation of the driver's data before they use our platform, such as validating the driver's license, ID card and vehicle documentation, all to ensure that there is great security for all parties involved. in our system“, he emphasizes, given fears about crime in Mozambican cities.
To provide safety guarantees to the driver, the service offers data on the number of trips the passenger has already made.
This information can be used as criteria for the taxi driver to refuse or accept the trip, taking into account his assessment of the passenger's suitability.
“If it is late and at night, for a passenger who makes a request with just one trip in the system, the driver may become suspicious and refuse”, highlights Momed Adamo.
The application also has “an 'SOS' button that the driver can activate and can record the discussion with a certain passenger, if this happens,” said Adamo.
The company is testing the introduction of a delivery service in Maputo, as part of the expansion of its operation in the capital, announced the director of Yango in Mozambique.
It is also studying the feasibility of expanding its presence to other large Mozambican cities, aiming to respond to numerous requests for this purpose, he said.
