After nearly eight years in development, the Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), revealed yesterday its new bet on the market, with the company's first mixed reality device: the Apple Visio Pro.

During the WWDC event, Apple unveiled its new mixed reality device, which had been rumored for months. However, this now becomes official, along with all its news.

According to Tim Cook, with Vision Pro, users are not limited only to screens, being able to use the spaces around them for the most varied activities. The company seems to be focusing on using this device as an augmented reality device, rather than a virtual one – the focus of the presentation was exactly on its features that allow it to integrate the virtual and real world.

The device has a very similar design to what emerged from the rumors, being similar to that of sky glasses. Obviously, there is a slight touch of Apple, as is the case with the digital crown at the top, similar to the Apple Watch.

The Vision Pro has an aluminum structure, with a front screen protected by glass. There is a physical button for content capture and a digital crown for adjustments. The back has an adjustable headband for users. On the sides there is also what Apple calls “audio pods”, which allows you to transmit the audio from the device.

The hardware also has a new technology, known as "EyeSight", which uses the device's front screen to display the users' eyes, or provide indications of what is being done by it. For example, if the user is interacting with others in the room, their eyes will be visible to the person on the other side.

Inside, there are micro-OLED screens, which allow to obtain an excellent quality of final vision, to which is added a partnership with Zeiss, so that users can use their own lenses on the device, instead of using the same with glasses.

The opaque screen allows images to blend in with the surrounding environment, and an integrated 3D camera is also available, allowing users to capture “spatial” image and video content.

The company also underlines how the system can be used to watch movies or games, taking advantage of the space visible to the user and creating an immersive sensation.

Disney will be one of Apple's first partnerships. Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, appeared at the event to reveal the partnership with the company and Disney+, allowing users to access various content from the streaming platform on Vision Pro.

Apple is targeting this new device as something focused on work, although some uses at home and with friends and family have been revealed. At the same time, the presentation also made it clear that there is still work to be done, and this reveal will be focused on attracting developers to this new platform.

The Vision Pro will be available from $3499…
