A Microsoft closed in July last year the offer for those who wanted to update one of the previous versions of the Windows, from 7 to the most recent, the Windows 10. But there is still one last opportunity to get an update free of charge.
However, users who need adaptive technologies only have until January 16th of the current year to update their devices to Windows 10 without paying for a license. In Microsoft's view, users should have already migrated to Windows 10, a modern system with bug fixes, patches and periodic updates.
According to a NetMarketShare survey, about 7% of users refused to update, or simply forgot at the end of the term, in July 2016, as the system was originally launched in July 2015.
Microsoft shut down Windows 8.1 main support on 9 in January of 2017, five years after the release of the operating system. Essentially, the software is dead, and for the average user, Windows 8.1 will remain unchanged forever, with no new features or bug fixes.
