Increase in COVID-19 cases postpones IENA 2020 fair

In recent years, Angola has actively participated in the Ideas, Inventions and New Products Fair (iENA), in its 71st edition that took place in 2019, several works by Angolan researchers attracted interest, to the point of being awarded six gold medals, also one silver and two bronze.

With the appearance of COVID-19, many of the major events at national and international level have been canceled or postponed, and now IENA is in one of those situations. The International Fair of Ideas, Inventions and New Products (IENA), to which Angola had already registered, in September, 19 projects aimed at the treatment of COVID-19, was postponed due to the increase in the number of infected in that European country, which closed several activities again.

A press release from the Angolan commission nominated to participate in the event, which mentions the Management of AFAG - Feiras e Exposições GmbH, from Nuremberg - Federal Republic of Germany, managing company of the Fair and IENA, made public the cancellation of edition number 72 of the “IENA 2020”.

This edition was scheduled for 29 October to 1 November this year.

Angola envisaged participating in 19 projects intrinsic to the development of integrated technologies for flood-related warning systems, applications of multiple nature (related to the electronic security system and processes for monitoring hospital activities).

Other projects in Angola have to do with supporting the systematization of revenue collection processes in the informal economy environment. Likewise, with covid-19 alerts, reusable face masks, as well as the phytotherapeutic proposal for the cure and immunization of the referred pandemic.

The projects registered by Angola are by researchers and teachers from Universities Agostinho Neto (7 projects), Methodist of Angola (6 projects), inventors of the Eliada School Complex (2 projects), SEAKA - Casa de Caminho Andre Luiz (3 projects) and Technicians from I&IT - Research, Technology and Innovation (1 project).

The Republic of Angola has participated in iENA - Germany, since 2009 and won a total of 79 medals, 19 of which were gold, 28 silver and 32 bronze, until 2019. With this postponement, Angola can interrupt a ten-year cycle of participation uninterrupted.
