A BMW had already put in place an emergency call system for cars called “OnStar”That if a fault is detected it automatically dials for help. But apparently the company decided to extend the service to motorcycles.

BMW wants to offer the same safety for motorcyclists. The company has announced that its smart emergency call system, which already operates in Europe in cars for over 15 years, will now be an option for BMW motorcycles from 2017.

BMW also suggests that drivers can use the manual emergency button to call for help from other road users. So trying to avoid several deaths on the road.

The system uses GPS to locate motorcycles with a special phone connection to contact BMW emergency call centers and “start the rescue chain”. Therefore, the call is made automatically if the sensors detect a high speed collision, with a built-in loudspeaker and microphone to establish contact with the pilot. If a minor fall or collision is detected, the system will fire after 25 seconds, thus allowing the pilot to cancel the call if there is no danger or if no assistance is required. The system can also be operated manually with the press of a button.
