The National Bank of Angola (BNA) granted, through an order of the governor of that institution, José de Lima Massano, dated 16 October, the License of Payment Services Provider to Unitel Serviços Financeiros Móveis.

According to what is revealed through various informative platforms, with this license to Unitel will be authorized to carry out mobile and instant transfers, commonly known as mobile payments or mobile money.

According to the Angolan Central Bank, granting the license is in line with one of the priority actions of the institution's National Plan for Financial Inclusion, which involves guaranteeing Angolan civil society greater access to the financial services network.

About the telephone operator, which recently launched the mobile and instant payments and transfers service through telephone terminals, called UnitelMoney, which has a growth rate of 25% per month, as it was revealed, will reinforce the company's financial inclusion strategy.

BUT: Unitel Money, the new mobile payments service, now available

On the other hand, the Angolan authorities aim, by 2022, for a minimum of 50% of the Angolan adult population to have access to basic financial services. It is still in this same path that "bearing in mind that financial inclusion is a fundamental condition for sustainable economic development, Banco Nacional de Angola has participated in actions leading to the creation of a modern and inclusive payments ecosystem” says a source from that banking institution.

It should also be noted that the new law on the BNA payment system will encourage the entry of new types of financial institutions (fintechs) as well as the Payment System Innovation Laboratory are some of these actions.
