O National Bank of Angola (BNA) is currently creating conditions to be able to make the first issue of moeda digital in the near future, as part of the modernization of payment instruments.

This information was revealed by José de Lima Massano, Governor of the BNA, speaking at the 109th meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, informing that the main banking institution intends to continue the modernization of payment instruments, with emphasis on mobile payments, but also prepare work for Angola's digital currency.

"We may not have it yet, at the end of this cycle, but at least we want to have all the technical evaluation and, if it is decided to issue it, we will also have the basic conditions to allow this to happen.“, He stressed.

Digital currencies, also known as virtual currencies or cryptocurrencies, emerged in 2009 and function from a decentralized network (peer-to-peer system, from the English peer to peer), enabling transfers from one person to another without the intermediation of a bank.
