BPC looking for a technology company to prevent computer attacks

The Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC) opened three public tenders for national and foreign companies, one of which is the search for a technological solution to prevent attacks and process wages.

According to Valor Económico newspaper, the public tender in question relates to the acquisition (leasing) and implementation of the information security and data protection awareness and training platform, aimed only at national entities and where one of the requirements for interested companies is to have more than ten years of cybersecurity experience and 27001 certification.

This BPC measure is part of the recapitalization, requalification and total replacement plan of the technological infrastructure, which in recent times has been the target of several computer attacks, depriving the customers of the said bank from carrying out operations on the Multicaixa Express platform and even querying balance and movements at the counters of bank branches.

According to José Matoso, Director of Communication at BPC, in an interview with TV Zimbo, he said that “it is not a simple process due to its complexity and sensitivity, hence the phased replacement. After these replacements, we will have an infrastructure with greater processing capacity and data storage".

It should also be noted that in the government of António André Lopes, as Chairman of the BPC, when he took office in June 2019, he identified the BPC's IT systems as its main weakness, declaring that this same weakness deserved all the attention of the its administration.

In the previous administration, shortly before being dismissed as PCA of BPC, President Alcides Safeca had paid more than 10 million dollars (out of a total of 15 million) to the consultancy Deloitte, for the implementation of a new computer system.
