In time it appeared the information that, SACS was expected to enter operation in August., but for some reason the same has not happened, but according to Angola Cables press release, everything is ready.

O SACS enters into operation from Thursday, 27 of September of 2018, at which time the company builder of the system, NEC Corporation, will deliver the contract in Luanda at the Palmeiras Hotel in Talatona, at an event that will be attended by the sector authorities in Angola.

The South Atlantic Submarine Cable System (SACS) is ready to go live and open to traffic. The new digital information circuit is the first and fastest link between the African continent and the Americas, with the lowest latency and the ability to provide more direct routing for Internet traffic in the Southern Hemisphere.

Data transfer speeds will be considerably improved (five times faster than existing cable routes), reducing the latency from Fortaleza (Brazil) to Luanda (Angola) from 350 to 63 milliseconds. Luanda, will also connect to London and Miami with approximately 128 thousandths of latency seconds. These two main hubs of content, will position Angola as a strategic point to serve the transatlantic region with low latency and resilient connections.

Second Antonio Nunes (CEO of Angola Cables), it is estimated that direct communications between Africa and the Americas generate several advantages worldwide for Internet service providers (ISPs), cloud service providers (CSPs) and higher content providers (OTTs) that use these connections. This new route will change the dynamics of Internet traffic in the Southern Hemisphere and, combined with Many and the WACS, will dramatically alter global routing options for digital traffic, especially since SACS is a new gateway for data across networks, large content providers and some of the fastest growing data consuming markets.

The cable will allow Internet service providers and African users to take a more direct and secure route to the Americas - without having to go through Europe. Content service providers in Latin America will also be able to benefit from the option of using the SACS route to reach markets in Africa and Europe, without using traditional and high-volume Internet traffic routes in the Northern Hemisphere.
