The use of international Visa and Mastercard cards in Cape Verde's interbank network increased by almost 33% last year, largely due to the return to tourism that had been stopped due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to information released by the Interbank Society of Payment Systems (SISP) of Cape Verde, it informs that the service “International Acquiring” – international brands – registered “some recovery, with the 'new normal' after the Covid-19 pandemic".

The number of transactions registered with these two international cards was 727.814 in 2021, reveals the SISP.

It should also be noted that the volume transacted by these cards increased by 20% compared to 2020, with operations with Visa cards representing 58% of transactions and 41,8% with Mastercard. In commissions, Visa paid Cape Verde 82,7 million Escudos, while Mastercard paid more than 83,7 million Escudos.
