It has recently emerged that, new WPA3 protocol for wireless network security to be released this year, this after having been broken the WPA2 Networks security protocol.
Well, finally the change has arrived. the Wi-Fi Alliance, which oversees the adoption of the WiFi standard, began certification of products that support WPA3, the successor to the WPA2 security protocol that has been in use since 2004.
What brings this new protocol?
O The new protocol provides several additional protections for devices connected via Wi-Fi. A major improvement makes it harder for hackers to decrypt the network password, guessing over and over again, and another limiting the data that hackers can see even after discovering the password.
Are there really great news?
The first great news of WPA3 is the protection against offline attacks and guessing of passwords. It is at this point that an attacker captures data from the Wi-Fi stream, brings it back to a private computer, and guesses passwords over and over until they find a match. With this new protocol, attackers should only make a guess against these offline data before they become useless; they will have to interact with the WiFi device directly every time they want to guess (this makes things more difficult since they need to be physically present, and devices can be configured to protect against retries).
The other great news of WPA3, as highlighted by the Wi-Fi Alliance, is early secrecy. This is a privacy feature that prevents older data from being compromised by a subsequent attack. Therefore, if an attacker captures an encrypted Wi-Fi transmission and then violates the password, it will still not be able to read the oldest data. They will only be able to see new information flowing through the network.
