The most influential technology event in the world, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), remains red in its 2023 edition.

The annual three-day trade show, which showcases new trends and the latest developments in the world of consumer technology, is being held in Las Vegas, USA, from January 5th to 8th. Exhibitions take place in various locations in the city, famous for its casinos and gambling.

Although CES has a tradition of presenting countless different emerging technologies, this year we can see that the fair has decided to focus on technologies that help solve the biggest challenges of the planet, according to information from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), organizer of the event and to which MenosFios editorial staff had access.

Among them are technological solutions focused on sustainability, such as robots that dive into pipes to look for leaks. “Globally, around 30 billion cubic meters of clean water are lost each year due to leaks.“, said Steve Koenig, vice president of research at CTA, in a press conference.

Enterprise technology, or technology that aims to help companies operate more efficiently, is also a focus this year. Among the highlights are innovations that allow humans to work alongside robots.

An example is what Koenig called Cray X, a w robot manufactured by German Bionic. It is intended to replace the Velcro straps used by warehouse workers to secure themselves when lifting heavy objects. The Cray X robotic exoskeleton provides workers with an extra boost when they stand up, thus helping to reduce fatigue and potential injuries.

The metaverse is also in evidence this year. Popularized by the company Meta (formerly Facebook) in 2021, the concept is not yet a reality, but it is thought to be an immersion in the virtual world.

By 2023, the metaverse will go "beyond virtual reality", promises Koenig. He cites, for example, headphones that integrate aromas combined with visual perceptions, which manage to offer a greater sense of immersion to the user. The final evaluation is up to visitors to this year's CES, who can see and test these devices in the showroom itself.

Beyond the Gadgets designed to make an impact, visitors can also explore new w, as well as high-end video games.

Many cutting-edge technology companies are present this year. Meanwhile, Tesla and Apple are conspicuous by their absence. In their absence, companies like Dell, LG and Germany's Volkswagen seek to make the most of the event, presenting new products to challenge the strength that the two giants have in the market for electric vehicles and personal devices, respectively.

Also, big companies like BMW, Samsung and Google have built huge dedicated spaces for their newest products. But technology-focused growth companies are also present. They see the fair as an opportunity to strengthen relationships with local customers and also build connections with international customers.

"We want to showcase our entire program for the rest of the year, so retailers and other partners can plan what's to come and know where we're going.“ Chuck Akins, vice president of sales and marketing at J5create, told DW. The technology company produces electronic devices for the average consumer.

This year marks 56 years since the first CES. More than 3,2 exhibitors from 173 countries present Gadgets traditional and non-traditional for attendees eager for a taste of what lies ahead in the world of technology.
