China criticizes the United States for imposing restrictions on technology exports

O Chinese government criticized the US imposition of restrictions on high-tech exports as a trade violation after Japan and the Netherlands agreed to side with Washington.

At issue is access to equipment to manufacture advanced semiconductor 'chips'. The United States argues that those components could be used by China for military purposes and in domestic surveillance apparatus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not mention the latest developments, but accused Washington of abusing restrictions on exports and coordinating with other governments to "maintain its hegemony" and contain China's development.

The United States is trying to prevent China from acquiring semiconductor 'chips' and technology for their production, which would allow China to modernize its industrial capacity.

"This seriously violates market principles and the international trade order.", said the spokesperson of the ministry Mao Ning, adding that Washington is "undermine the stability of global industrial and supply chains".

BUT: US wants to increase restrictions on technology exports to China

Cited by the Associated Press, a person familiar with the agreement said on Sunday that Japan and the Netherlands, major suppliers of technology and raw materials for the production of semiconductor 'chips', had agreed to participate in the restrictions imposed by the US.

The Communist Party has invested billions of dollars to develop its own chip industry, but its suppliers still rely on imported manufacturing equipment, raw materials and other technologies.

Industry experts say that Chinese production is improving, but that it is not yet capable of making the semiconductors needed for mobile phones and other more advanced products.
