Chrome will block unsafe downloads

Google unveiled my newest plans, to initially warn Chrome users about downloads “Unsafe” and eventually block them completely. “Today we’re announcing that Chrome will gradually ensure that secure pages (HTTPS) download only secure files", wrote joe deblasio, from the Chrome security team.

Starting with Chrome 82, due out in April, Chrome warns users if they are about to download mixed content executables from a secure website.

Then, when version 83 is released, these downloads executables will be blocked and the warning will be applied to compressed files. The PDFs and files .doc will receive the warning in Chrome 84, with audio, images, text and video files displaying it in version 85. Finally, all downloads mixed content - an insecure file from a secure website will be blocked from the launch of Chrome 86.
