Cybercriminals take advantage of migration from Messenger to Skype

2067

Yesterday, April 8, the end of an era came. The disappearance of MSN Messenger and the hosting of millions of users by Skype - 100 million users according to Microsoft. However, this is making it easier for Cybercriminals to catch the most unsuspecting users.

According to the security consulting company, Kaspersky Lab, it means that it is increasingly difficult to find the Messenger installer on the Internet, something that, as the company maintains, “has not gone unnoticed by cybercriminals, who have encountered this situation. an opportunity to infect users try to download (download) this instant messaging service ”.

The biggest example is that when doing a search of the service installer in some countries like Portugal, the first result that appears is that of a web page created by a cracker  containing malicious content, and which makes the installer available. When downloading the installer, we will be storing in our computer a Trojan (Trojan Horse).

Karpersky Lab recommends migrating our account directly from Messenger to Skype, and not choosing to search for the program that will allow us to install Messenger. All for the prevention of possible attacks on our network or computer by a malicious person.

"This is the first of several attacks that use the end of MSN Messenger as bait”Says Fabio Assolini, security analyst at Kaspersky Lab.“ We register other malicious domains created for the same purpose, although some of them have already been disabled.
