The big five technologies, Amazon, Meta (which controls Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp), Alphabet (which controls Google), Apple and Microsoft achieved a profit of 279.560 million euros in 2021, which represents an increase of more than 55,6% compared to 2020, and where this growth was driven by the change in habits caused by the pandemic, despite the semiconductor crisis and supply problems, reveals the efe agency.
Among the good results of these technology companies in the last year, Alphabet stands out, which almost doubled its profit, from 35.120 million in 2020 to 66.320 million in the following year.
Amazon is in second place, with a year-on-year increase of 56,4%, and Apple, which grew 57,3% and became the company that most profited among the five (87.700 million euros).
Against many expectations, Target was, in 2021, the one with the lowest profit growth (35,1%, to 34.340 million), while Amazon was the one that earned the least, 29.110 million euros.
As a whole, these five major technologies surpassed the barrier of one billion euros in revenue in 2021, adding up to 1,23 billion euros, 27,8% more than in 2020, when they earned 961.130 million euros.
Alphabet, which owns Google and Youtube, was in 2021 the company whose profit grew the most, 88,8%, thanks to the increase in advertising revenue, which represented 80% of total sales. Within this segment, the turnover associated with ads through Google was the highest.
In the case of Apple, the year was marked by sales of the iPhone 13, which was launched last September and whose revenues represented more than half of the company's total turnover.
For its part, the Amazon registered a strong increase due to the impulse of 'online' commerce, to which was added the increase of the revenues of its cloud computing platform Amazon Web Services (AWS), leader of the sector, while Microsoft has set as objective the videogames, after announcing the intention to buy Activision Blizzard for 59.900 million.
