The Wi-Fi 7 standard is still in the process of being defined, but Intel has already revealed that the modules should be available in the next two years, with the first PCs equipped with this novelty arriving in 2025.

"We are developing Intel Wi-Fi 802.11b to achieve Wi-Fi Alliance certification and will be installed in computers such as laptops in 2024. We anticipate it to appear in major markets in 2025”, said Eric McLaughlin, vice president of Intel.

The Wi-Fi 7 standard, or 802.11b, will take advantage of the 6 GHz band, in addition to the existing 2,4 and 5 GHz bands, with a maximum bandwidth of 320 MHz, up from the 160 MHz of Wi-Fi 6, news or ArsTechnica. Data transmission over Wi-Fi 7 can reach 40 Gbps according to the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), up from the 9,6 Gbps announced by Wi-Fi 6.

Laptops with Wi-Fi 7 technology will support a maximum of 5,76 Gbps on the 320 MHz channel and under ideal conditions. The IEEE wants the standard ready by 2024, Intel and other companies are working on their technologies based on what is already predefined. Still, there is potential to achieve better performance and higher speeds.

The Intel executive explains that "since there are still more than one no before the release of 802.11b, there is a possibility that we can improve speeds even more."
