Meet some African e-Learning Universities

The impact of technology on education is something that can not be overlooked. Not only by having technology in the classroom improve learning, but also by improving the education experience and increasing the level of interaction.

Certainly, today, many Africans use e-Learning platforms that were not created specifically for our continent, some due to lack of knowledge, this is also due to their poor dissemination. So, let's present some of them:

The University of Africa (UA) is a Private Open Distance Tertiary Institution with an expanding portfolio of study programs and degrees offered. At present, these programs include Business Administration; Trade; Economy; Health Services Administration; Human resources Management; Right; Logistics and Transportation; Marketing; Public administration; Tourism etc. A process is currently underway to make all courses taught at this higher education institution available online as part of the e-Learning. At the moment, in its distance learning courses, it already hosts about 2000 students from different countries, such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in which it is now intended welcome students from Nigeria and Kenya soon.

A Wits More is a virtual university offered by the University of Witwatersrand. The platform offers fully online with courses that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, and are fully adaptable to all types of devices. These courses are offered in partnership with DigitalCampus. As for the courses, it offers programs for a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degree on a part-time basis.

 

 

The University of Rwanda offers an e-Learning portal for six diploma programs for secondary school teachers. The distance education portal is administered by the Faculty of Education, which is responsible for the coordination of open and distance e-learning programs for all universities. This faculty also focuses on putting learning materials used in the ordinary classroom during online training, so that all students can access them at any time.

The university of Ahmadu Bello with distance learning, has undergraduate and graduate courses in all fields. There is also a Master's program in Business Administration (MBA) accredited by National Universities Commission (NUC) available on the online platform. Conference videos and study materials can be accessed offline. The distance learning portal allows students to submit papers, interact in lectures and with tutors.

The African Virtual University (AVU) is a pan-African intergovernmental organization with 19 member countries, which aims to increase access to quality higher education through the innovative use of information and communication technologies.

The University has a satellite-based distance learning program that started working with the World Bank in 1995. AVU has transformed itself from a World Bank project into an independent inter-governmental organization based in Nairobi (Kenya), with more 34 learning centers in 17 African countries. The university offers programs in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics , and more.

The Kenyetta Digital Learning School, was created to deal with the increased demand for better higher education e-Learning programs in Kenya. This digital school offers undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a master's degree using combined teaching, which combines digital instructions with live tutorials at regional centers. The Digital School has centers in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kericho, Nyeri, Embu, Garissa and Marsabit.
