Discover the most used passwords in 2021

With each passing year, the digital services that people use are increasingly equipped with multiple layers of security. An example of this is when choosing a password, because of this same security, a requirement that it must contain numbers, letters, capital letters and symbols, as well as two-factor authentication.

Based on this enormous security when choosing a password, the well-known platform North Pass released its year 2021 list which details how many times a particular password was used and how long it would take to crack it.

According to information provided by the platform, the list of passwords was compiled in partnership with several independent investigators specializing in gathering information dedicated to cyber security incidents. For that year's list, more than 4 TB of passwords were evaluated, which were compiled into a database.

The researchers working on the report classified the data into various categories, giving them permission to perform statistical analysis based on countries and gender. Thus, to serve as an example, speaking of the gender category, the investigated data were classified by gender only if they included a gender key. If it does not contain a data key, then the data is classified as "unknown".

The list compiled the 200 most used passwords around the world (as you can see from the photo below), and where the most used passwords are of the type 123456, 123456789, 12345, qwerty. When taking a complete look at the list, we notice an infinite creativity that can later translate into problems and headaches.

A ludicrous fact on the list is that it also shows the time it takes to “crack” the password, as there is no lack of tools on the internet to try to decipher passwords.

It should also be noted that the easier the password, the simpler the hacked services will be.
