Meet the new minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation

Angola now has a new Minister of Higher Education Science, Technology and inovation. The doctor Maria do Rosário Bragança Sambo, until then current dean of the University Agostinho Neto (UAN), was Thursday (September 28) appointed minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Professional and academic career 

Since August 2015, Professor Maria do Rosário Bragança Sambo has a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Universidade Agostinho Neto since 1983. He has been a specialist in Neurology since 1997 by the Neurology Service of the Hospital de Egas Moniz (Lisbon - Portugal) and of the Portuguese Medical Association.

É PhD in Medicine (2010), branch of Genetics, with the defense of the thesis on “Genetic susceptibility to cerebral malaria in Angolan children”, at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (Oeiras, Portugal) and at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.

She was dean of the Medical School of Katyavala Bwila University, in Benguela (2011-2015), where she is also a titular professor. The work on "Genetic susceptibility to cerebral malaria in Angolan children" received two awards: the Pfizer 2010 prize for clinical research awarded by the Society of Medical Sciences of Lisbon and the prize for biomedical research by the Angolan Medical Association at 2011. It is particularly interested in clinical and genetic studies on malaria.

She is responsible for the coordination of two projects of the Faculty of Medicine of Katyavala Bwila University, namely "Neonatal Screening for Drepanocytosis and Genetic Counseling for Risk Couples in Benguela Central Hospital" and "Falciparum Malaria in Pregnant Women in Benguela Province: the immune response and the markers of genetic susceptibility to planetary infection. "

Literary works 

She is the author and co-author of several scientific publications in indexed journals, as well as the book A look at medical diseases in pregnancy - Clinical Cases (Benguela, October 2013). He also published E Assim Vivi Benguela - Fragmentos de uma vida (memórias), by Mayamba Editora, Luanda, 2017, 90 pages.
