The year 2021, like 2020, continues to be an atypical year. With the new Coronavirus, which emerged in 2020 and forced us to stay at home, it continued to affect the year 2021 with force, and we no longer need to talk about the supply of components that is affecting the technological world. However, it also brought something new that we were not expecting.

With people at home, we already know that the internet has much more demand, with a clear emphasis on social networks, and in recent years, the most visited sites have been the Google and the Facebook, if the latter were not the largest social network in the world. However, this atypical year of 2021 brought something new to the list of most visited sites.

This most visited website title in 2021 turns out to be surprising and is the TikTok, the fashionable social network that has experienced great growth thanks to the confinement caused by Covid-19, and the increase did not only happen in 2020, but continued in 2021 and causes this surprise to take it to the top of this ranking. But, without a doubt, there was also a great marketing strategy behind it.

The information was released by CloudFlare, which monitors a good part of internet traffic with its services. Below is the list of the 10 most visited websites in 2021.

  1. tiktok.com
  2. Google.com
  3. Facebook.com
  4. Microsoft.com
  5. Apple.com
  6. Amazon.com
  7. Netflix.com
  8. Youtube.com
  9. Twitter.com
  10. Whatsapp.com

Other aspects that should be highlighted is that Instagram, which has been the Meta social network that has seen the most growth in recent times, dropped out of the top 10 this year, when last year it was in ninth place, appearing, this year, Whatsapp. For the rest, they are the same sites that are in force in this ranking, with some minor changes, with emphasis on Netflix, which lost two places.

In addition to the most visited sites, Cloudfar also disclosed the most popular online stores, streaming and social networks, with Netflix being ahead of YouTube, probably. This is interesting as we must not forget that YouTube is free to access, unlike Netflix which is paid access.
